FROM YOUR CLUB PRESIDENT:

  Jay Pienta 309-786-1364

Well, we’re off to a new start of a New Year. 2012 is here and I look forward to working with our new board members and meeting our new members of our club. We have many new ideas to work on this year both to help raise money for our club projects, and ideas to help our members meet one another and have some fun by putting on various events.

We need to work together this year by inviting your friends out to the club and hopefully getting them to join. We welcome your input at our meetings, and can use any talents, skills, and professional trainings that you may have to help the club grow and prosper and save money. If you have construction experience, roofing, plumbing, mechanical, or IT knowledge, we would like to here from you and put together a database of people we could call on for help with the club. Please give me a call.   Let’s get started with the New Year.

CLUB FUN-RAISERS/FUN-ACTIVITIES

 Jay Pienta 309-786-1364

The club has some great ideas this year to help offset operating costs and to be able to get our families involved and to come out and enjoy a FUN event. Here are some ideas that have been brought up by our members and we want to hear from you on what you think. These ideas will be discussed at our upcoming club meetings:

Idea 1: A weekend to learn how to camp, outdoor cook, and proper fishing techniques. Needed: Members who have experience with camping, cooking, fishing. Benefits: Members who have limited knowledge on how to camp, outdoor cooking, using various types of cooking techniques,  limited experience on how to fish would benefit from this event.

Idea 2: A flea market/vendor fair. Needed: Individuals/groups who have a product to sell, or individuals who want to bring their treasures out to the flea market to sell. Benefits:  Club would make some money or receive a product for club use, Meet new members,  Sell your stuff, have fun.

Idea 3: A wild/tame game dinner. Needed: Hunters who would donate meat for the dinner, desert donations, members with cooking skills. Benefits: Club could make some money, Meet members, enjoy a great dinner at a great price. Chicken could also be served for those non-game eaters. Cost could be minimal and profit could be maximal based on donations and help.

So what do you think? Can you help/donate to these ideas? Do you have other ideas to help get the club members together to have some fun? Call me, I will be taking names and numbers.

QCCA Shows:

To volunteer call: Jerry Hagstrom: 309-764-7097or 309-236-2309

The Quad City Conservation Alliance is made up of 5 clubs. RICC is one of those clubs. All shows held at the QCCA are dependant on volunteers from each of the 5 clubs. You can be one of those people who can help both the QCCA and our club by calling Jerry and letting him know that you would be willing to work a show. Jerry will let you know what jobs are open and what hours are available. Jobs include: popcorn, concessions, tickets, ice cream, etc. Our club receives $3 for every hour that you work and that money is used for conservations programs here at our club. You will also be allowed to visit the show either before or after your shift. You must sign in before and after your shift so our club gets credit for your hours. We have some great projects lined up this year and those projected depend on the money made from our volunteers that work the QCCA shows.

Is Your Boat in Lockup?

Several boats have been removed from our shorelines and placed in lockup. Boats were required to be off the lake by 1 Dec. An additional week was given and there still were boats that had to be removed and placed in storage. IF one of these boats is yours, It will cost you $50.00 to get it removed from lockup. Please contact Troy for arrangements.

CLEAN GRAVEL AND FILL MATERIAL NEEDED!

 TROY 563-275-0094

Our shorelines are disappearing at a fast rate each year. We need gravel, and clean materials such as brick, concrete, rocks, etc., to be placed on our shores to help fight the erosion process. IF you have such materials or know of people who do, we would like to ask you to bring them out to the club. FIRST we need you to call Troy who will tell you where we need the material placed. It is easier to have you dump the materials in the right place the first time. DO NOT dump materials along the roads or anywhere else on the club without first contacting Troy. With you help we can help save our shorelines.

NOTE: Keep in mind that we are not a dumping ground for your unwanted household materials. DO NOT drop stuff off at the burn pile, do not drop off your unwanted paint, or leaves, yard waste, or any other materials that you don’t want. Help keep the club clean!

ANY ONE CAUGHT DUMPING UNWANTED MATERIALS ON CLUB
PROPERTY WILL BE ARRESTED AND PROCECUTED!

GOT USED MOTOR OIL?
309-787-4770

Help save the environment and recycle your used motor oil. The club has a container located in front of the main pole barn. Please take your used motor oil out to the club and place it in the container. The club makes money off of used motor oil, and also helps save the environment. We received around $120.00 from our last oil pickup so please keep the oil coming. NOTICE 1: Like we stated in last months newsletter. ONLY MOTOR OIL will be accepted! That does not mean “chicken oil”, “anti-freeze” or ANY other kind of oil. JUST USED ENGINE OIL! NOTICE 2: TAKE HOME YOUR CONTAINERS THAT YOU BROUGHT THE OIL IN! AND Do Not leave anything else there so we have to discard it! We do not want to spend money getting rid our your trash when we are trying to save the environment and recycle motor oil.

THE WOMEN IN THE OUTDOORS PROGRAM

Welcome to the National Wild Turkey Federation's Women in the Outdoors. We're so glad you've taken the time to learn more about our exciting program.

The Women in the Outdoors program is an outdoor educational program that provides hands-on, in-the-field learning opportunities for women. The program offers women a chance to learn about various outdoor activities that are educational and fun for both the novice and experienced outdoor enthusiast.

Through Women in the Outdoors events, women from all walks of life are being given the chance to experience the thrill of outdoor activities such as camping, recreational shooting, archery, fishing, fly fishing, wild turkey hunting, birdwatching, canoeing, and outdoor cooking, and many other fun activities. The events will also allow women to develop a greater understanding of wildlife conservation and meet others who share their enthusiasm. We know that not every woman is interested in hunting so we ensure there is always a mix of classes so everyone will find classes that appeal to them.

If you've never seen how enthusiastic and amazed women are when they hit their first clay pigeon or see how great the women are at cheering their classmates on when they hit OR miss a clay pigeon; it's a pretty awesome sight.

Maybe shooting isn't your forte; what about fishing or fly fishing? How about experiencing the serenity of learning to fish and then catching your first fish?

Have you ever had the desire to learn how to shoot a bow? You may never go archery hunting, but maybe you like the thought of target practice.

Have you ever wondered how women in the 1800's lived? How about taking a pioneer women skills class and learn about building fires with flint and steel, see replicas of guns that were used at that time, how about learning about what goes on at a civil war reenactment, what about learning to throw a tomahawk or knife?

These are just a couple of the different types of classes that are held at events.

"The Women in the Outdoors program allows the NWTF to reach an entirely new audience, one that has been overlooked in the past for outdoors sports and conservation" said Rob Keck, NWTF CEO.

Women in the Outdoors programs are held at various types of locations. From shooting clubs, archery clubs, hunting clubs, plantations, guide services, to private farms, or anywhere we can gather for a safe and fun day in the outdoors. The events are held across the country with experts on hand to teach in a non-competitive manner.

Women in the Outdoors members are from all over North America. We have Women's Regional Coordinators for every state, so no matter where you're from, there's a Coordinator who will be happy to assist you.

Contact the Rock Island Conservation Club to learn about local opportunities.
